Relationship Reflection

Relationships are important to me.  My strongest relationship that I have is with my cousin Nicole.  We grew up together, and we have even lived together before.  When we were children we fought like we were sisters, and always made up with each other with five minutes.  I can honestly say we have never gone more than a day with being mad at each other.  After my stepdad passed away, her uncle, we became even closer.  Nicole is important to me because she is the one person that I can turn to when I have no one else to go to. I know some may think this is odd, because most will typically turn to a parent; but due to my mom continuously having stress in her life, I choose not to stress her out with my problems.  Nicole, is more than my sister she is my best friend.  We like to consider ourselves two peas in a pod. We are so different but yet alike.  I am there for her just like she is there for me.  Although I am the youngest, I tend to act like the big sister.  We maintain a healthy relationship by setting a side one day of week just for us.  We talk numerous times throughout the day, and we are always checking on one another throughout the week.  I cannot imagine life without her.  She is literally my other half.  We have this saying, "we all we got" and anytime one of us get emotional about the lack of bond we have with our other family members we always say this.  I can honestly we have a bond that cannot be broken.  I love my cousin to pieces!

Another healthy relationship I have is with my sorority sister.  I love all of my Sorors, but there is one that I have an extremely close bond to.  She helped me get through Postpartum Depression after I had my son, and have never left my side even when I did not have two pennies to rub together.  She has not only helped me out financially but just by being a good friend.  I believe our relationship is so strong because we never judge one another, however we always tell one another how we view a certain situation.

The hardest part about establishing relationships to me is being able to trust new people.  I have been hurt and used by so many people that it is very hard for me to trust people.  I value the importance of being trustworthy and being someone that others can trust.  The fact that I value trust, will help me become a great teacher.  Because I will try my hardest to establish trustworthy relationship with my students and their parents.  Relationships are not easy and all relationship require work; but as long as both parties are willing to work at a it then all relationships has the possibility to be a healthy one.

  1. Hi Stacia,

Thank you so much for sharing your personal relationship with your cousin! It's so amazing to get to learn about each other's personal lives through these courses, I always feel so much more connected to everyone when we get to share more about ourselves. It sounds like you truly have a great relationship with her, and you've really helped each other through the years.
I agree with you so much about establishing trust in relationships, that's very important for me as well. Sometimes it's hard to do so, but I personally believe it makes us that much stronger when we make a point to build that trust.
    THANKS!
